How it works (put simply!)
Your body, controlled by your nervous system is a self-healing organism.
The brain communicates with the nervous system to co-ordinate every single function of your body from digestion, to breathing, to immune response. The nervous system is just like any communication system; it sends messages. That is how it balances, heals and regulates mechanisms in your body.
Your spine protects your nervous system.
Your spine’s primary function is to protect your nervous system and keeping it functioning is integral to maintaining healthy nerve function.
Irritation to the nervous system sets the stage for malfunction and disease.
Spinal misalignments and imbalances interfere with your nerve passageways. This can be caused by physical, chemical or emotional stresses, which then produce a defensive posture. Muscles contract locking spinal joints that pinch or irritate nearby nerves. This sets the stage for disease and ill health with your spine, muscles and internal organs. Most spinal misalignments are minor and painless and people are unaware of them, or they can be major and very painful.
They can affect your spinal mobility, the capacity of your muscles and organs to function optimally and hence your overall balance and health.
Chiropractic maintains the function of the spine and nervous system.
Chiropractic maintains the function of the spine and nervous system through gentle spinal adjustments that reduce tension and nervous system irritation. The chiropractor feels the movement of the spine while you are laying face down and a specific force is administered to correct the misalignment. This manoeuvre also results in instant localised relaxation of the surrounding muscles and tissues.
Your adjustment helps to free your nervous system from irritation, and the effects of an adjustment continue for hours or days after you leave the office. Your body continues to change, strengthening ligaments and tendons, retraining muscles, and forming new motor and nerve pathways as you go about your daily life.
Adjustments are very specific and safe: We exactly assess the direction, speed, depth and angle required. It is not uncommon that a slight noise from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint is heard, but this sound is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.
All joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion and function. Think of an adjustment as “tuning” a piano, adjusting each string so it produces the perfect tone.
